Unlocked: The World of Games, Revealed
For more than two years between 2015 and 2017, Unlocked: The World of Games, Revealed was the work. Eight episodes, a feature-length trailer, a touring slate of celebrity hosts and game-industry legends, and almost no aspect of the production I wasn’t involved in.
My responsibilities included, but weren’t limited to: writing scripts and editing video. Recording audio at every interview. Running one of the cameras at every interview. Organizing shoots and arranging transport and lodging for the celebrity hosts (Sean Astin, Tom Arnold, Michael Rooker, Penn Jillette, Zelda Williams, Matt Walsh, Alison Haislip, Meghan Camarena) and for the game-industry legends we sat down with (Shigeru Miyamoto, Nolan Bushnell, Cliff Bleszinski, Patrice Désilets, and a long list more). Hiring animators. Hiring local production crew in every city we shot in. Carrying gear. Setting up lights, cameras, audio. Creating graphics. Managing rights for every clip we used. Blurring logos when we couldn’t get the rights. Balancing the books. Giving notes on audio, voiceover, music, and picture. Standing in for Jeremy Snead, the show’s creator, when he couldn’t be on set.
